I'm definitely a Visitor!
Dr. White's video, "Visitors and Residents" was very intriguing. For me, it provided a description of those who relish the internet as a opportunity for networking, social interaction -- as a communal space. And, as an alternative, provided a description of the web as a tool box, which you search, then leave, maintaining your privacy and autonomy. I am definitely a "Visitor" and on the pronounced end of that continuum, whether it be because of age, learning style, or lack of experience and knowledge of the internet. A space somewhere in the middle between Visitor and Resident is my goal, although it feels uncomfortable to be totally visible and social and completely use the web as a home space.

Grace, I think that for people like us that value the privacy and disconnectedness of being in the real world it is important to draw a clear line between your online person and offline life. We can use these tools to benefit us a educators and researchers, but still remain private as people. Even Prof. Heil mentioned that in his first talk. Now we'll see if it works!
